What a day at Sandringham Athletics Club! With one of the first sunny Spring days of 2015, Melbourne produced a fine day for field and track events at the Beachside Athletics Carnival. Drawing tough competitors from Albert Park College, Cheltenham SC, Glen Eira College, Mac.Robertson Girls' HS, and Yavneh College, Mentone Girls' SC had incredible success throughout the day with 33 of our 43 competitors making it through to the Southern Metro Regionals on Thursday 8th October. With star athletes such as Zoe Cunningham, K.B, Teiki Waata, Bianca Lawrence, Taylah Nelson, Millie Belleville, Sarah Mathews and Lucy Burgess, MGSC had 51 first and second place finishes out of a possible 67. Star of the Day Zoe Cunningham - Back in March at the MGSC Athletics Carnival Zoe Cunningham (Year 8) won all 9 of her events. She continued this great form today winning all six of her events and setting Beachside records in the High Jump, Triple Jump, 80m Hurdles and 200m. Zoe will be competing in the above events plus the Shot Put and 4x100m relay at the Regionals in October. Congratulations Zoe. Performance of the Day Holly Tysoe - A special mention goes to Holly Tysoe (Year 7) who competed in the Under 16 events as a 12 year old. As all our Year 10 students were at the Year 10 camp, Holly was asked to jump up a few age groups and fill in for various running events. Surprising everyone, not only did Holly compete but she won the 1500m and 400m events, and came second in the 200m. What a star! Incredible effort Holly, well done. A big thank you to all our athletes for representing their school with such pride, to Ms Parker and Ms Miliken for their assistance on the day, and to all parents and grandparents who came to watch their daughters. Go Mentone!

All School Champions - On Thursday 3rd September, MGSC had four students compete at the Victorian All Schools Relay Championships at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. Every school from Victoria is eligible to enter and the field was largely filled with private schools. Zoe Cunningham, K.B, Teiki Waata (Year 8's) and Chelsea Ryan (Year 7) participated in the Under 14 4x100m relay and the medley relay which is 200m, 200m, 400m and 800m. The girls exceeded any expectations by winning the 4x100m by 0.12 seconds and coming second in the medley relay, an incredible achievement. Congratulations to the girls for their dedication and commitment in training and on the day. Also a big thank you to Erina Cunningham, Milly Berntsen and Lou Waata for coordinating the day.
