The Senior AFL team played a one off preliminary final on July 22nd to gain entrance into the Southern Metro Regionals on July 30th. With many of the star players on excursion, the Senior team played superbly and advanced to Regionals.
A very windy and cold day awaited the Junior and Senior AFL teams for the Regional round robin. Both teams started well with two wins out of two, but in their last game before the final they lost to Sandringham and Frankston respectively. Had the weather not been as severe, the contest would have been much closer, however both teams competed right till the end and showed excellent Mentone team spirit. Go Mentone

What a year for MGSC Soccer. All four of our age groups - Year 7, 8, Intermediate and Senior - won the Beachside soccer round robin. The next stop for our teams was a one off preliminary match on July 14th. The Senior and Intermediate teams were unsuccessful but the Year 7 and 8 teams would advance to the Regionals on July 29th where they would also fall just short. A great effort to have all four soccer teams advance and for two to play in the Regional finals. Thank you to Ms Ingold, Mr Day and Mr de Munk for training and coaching the girls.
Go Mentone The State Cross Country carnival was held on Thursday 16th July at Bundoora Park. The State’s best runners were present with each age group having between 80 and 100 competitors including 7 MGSC students representing the Southern Metro Region. MGSC’s day started off incredibly as the Under 13 team won the gold medal! (The team competition is where the five selected student’s scores are added together to produce an overall time). This means that MGSC had the 5 fastest Under 13 girls in the State. A huge congratulations to Millie Belleville (9th), K.B (16th), Teiki Waata (33rd), Holly Tysoe (53rd), and Maddie Atkinson (55th) for being MGSC's first State Gold medallists in a number of years.
Next up was Lucy Burgess (Year 9) in the Under 14 event where she finished in 45th position which was fantastic as at one point she wasn’t going to make it due to being stuck in Bali because of Mount Raung erupting. Last up was Emily McCarthy (Year 10) who had not represented MGSC at State level before and finished in 13th position in the Under 15 event. Emily has been training consistently throughout the year and her fitness has improved to a very high standard. Well done to all our competitors and parents who have followed their daughters throughout the carnivals this year. Lastly, a big thank you to Mrs Jackie Mathews for coordinating the SMR and State carnivals. Go Mentone |
